SURFACE DESIGN AND GUESTS SERVICE DESIGN

The Cacao Surface is a design solution for an external surface on a VIP Lodge, located in the Venezuelan coast, famous for its beaches and Cacao Plantations. The starting point of the whole Project was the idea of Cacao Beans as objects, and the image of beans being sun-dries in large patios at the plantations, with focus on the shape of every bean. Once founded a common shape, Rodolfo Agrella designed 3 typologies of ceramics, with diverse numbers of “beans”, everything in white matte high-relieve ceramic.

The whole idea of the surface was to verticalize the sun-drying patio exposed to the sun, in order to create a constant dialogue between the 540mts mural and the sun. Having a different mural per hour.

In the same spirit of the local tradition, Agrella started the creation of all the objects to the Service System of the lodge, for example, chocolate bars for amenities, with different percentage of cacao depending of the number of cacao beans per tablet. Using the object –in this case a food design object- to create new sensory memory, connected to the space
