SURFACE DESIGN

Based on traditional Venezuelan Yekuana weave system, the 3km long pavement connects each building from the Boulevard with a graphic and bold black and white paving stone pattern. The traditional Yekuana weave, with black and neutral fibers, is there graphic interpretation of the Universe, with long black lines that represent the rain connecting the Universe with a particular item, normally situated in the middle of the piece, that represents Men or animals. That concept is the starting point for this project.

The Boulevard of the Culture, located in the tropical and rainy Caracas, houses the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra Hall designed by ADJKM collective, a Mosque, a Church, two schools and a Theater; A very particular mix for a 3km long space. The black and white paving stone surface, connects the different “houses of cultures”, with long and angled lines, that forms a dynamic pattern for walking and biking, but also a clear reminder of our traditional Yekuana weave, that connect the Universe with Men.
